Joy’s Life Cri-kits BLOG HOP

25 Aug

Welcome to the Joy’s Life Cri-Kit  BLOG HOP.

I have made a gorgeous card to inspire you how to use these fun pens with your electronic cutting machines.

Here is the card I made which is a mixture of using the Cri-Kit pens and and then I also used a die cut butterfly to accentuate the colored design.

I am using the stamp set called Sweet Popsicle Puns.

The drawn butterfly design is from the Art Philosophy Cartridge.

The die cut butterflies are fro Cheery Lynn Designs.

I had so much fun this week learning how to use the pen in my Cricut Expression.  The Cri-Kit pens open up a whole new world of possibilities.  I can’t wait to keep trying more things with the many different colors I have.

I used the Glitter Pen set to color in the butterfly and WOW, do those glitter pens shimmer!

I hope you have enjoyed my card, since it is late and I did not have time to get together any Blog Candy…

My blog give away for this HOP is

1)  THIS CARD

2)  A RAINBOW SET OF BUTTERFLIES FROM THE DIE ABOVE

To qualify, be sure to leave a comment on my blog

and all the other blog along the hop and I will chose a random winner and post at the end of the hope when everyone else posts their winners!!!

Gel a Tins with Authentique Paper

23 Feb

I had such a fun time with this card.  I blew the dust off the ole Cricut and used the Create a Critter cartridge.

I am using all Authentique Papers from the 2 lines called:

Gathering & Celebrate

I am using the Gel a tins stamps called:

Love Knots

First, I embossed the stamp onto a piece of paper in black.

I adhered it to my card front as shown below.

Next I embossed the Love Knots stamp onto the tree branch and phrase in white.

Then comes the fun part…putting the card together.

A close up of the darling owl!  Isn’t it adorable??

To keep the card closed, I used a homemade repositionable glue dot under the bottom of the owl.

It lies nice and flat and opens nice an easily:)

I hope you like this as much as I do…

I have been so into giveaways lately…we can do one for this card too!

Here are the rules:

Holiday gift and Decor with Authentique Paper

28 Nov
I have a fun and easy idea to pass on to you today.
I am using some paper from the Wonder 6 x 6 bundle and a plain glass frame.
To start off I cut a frame from a full size piece of Wonder’s, off-white foundation paper.
The frame measures 5″ x 7″.
You can see all the shapes that have been cut out on the left.
I took each paper and put the right side of my cut out to the wrong side of the patterned paper I was using. This is so I do not get pencil marks left over from tracing.
You can see here that I was careful to number and match each patterned paper piece to the pattern piece I was using.
All the pieces are cut out, it is time to get ready for assembly.
Using a paint dabber, I edged all my cut outs and also the frame.
I also took the frame base and edged that with the paint as well.
I covered the frame back with a neutral piece of cardstock to cover the frame clamp holes.
Next I adhered the frame.
I knew I wanted to have the cut outs be slightly raised, so I put dimensional foam down first.
Here is the first stage of the frame done.
Next, I took some vinyl and cut-out the word JOY.  I used a setting on my cutter that cuts through the vinyl, but not the vinyl backing.  Here you see that I have already cut and removed the excess vinyl and only the word JOY is on the backing.
This might be redundant for those who work with vinyl, but after I did the previous step, I took some mounting film and lifted the word off the vinyl backing.
What you see here is the vinyl attached to the mounting film. the sticky side of the film is on the back of the letters.  The mounting film will release the vinyl, once I attach the vinyl to the frame.
Here I have attached the word to the glass and I am peeling off my mounting film.
Step 2 , you can see below is all done.
Step 3 is optional.  What I did was to embellish the from of the glass further.
I added fibers, lace and beads to bring it all together.
It really is a beautiful piece and fairly easy and quick to make.
You could use this idea for any season or for any occasion based on what paper you use.
I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial and that you can use this idea for the upcoming holiday season.

Very Thankful for this Altered Canvas with Authentiqe Paper & Grafix Arts

7 Nov
I am so excited to share my creation with you today.
I have made an altered canvas!
Incase you are wondering why I am calling this a very thankful altered canvas, it is because I am thankful to many people who have contributed to this design.
First, the makers of the canvas base.  Canvas Corp. makes all these fabulous products to alter.  Not only do they have awesome paper, they have a whole line of canvas and twine and home deco stuff.  I swear they have everything!  So thank you Canvas Corp for the awesome Canvas.
Second, the makers of the plastic I used for the charms and tree, Grafix Arts.  Have you heard of this company?
They have a ton of specialty paper and plastic products that take crafting to a whole new level.  I have been focusing on working with their Shrink Films and wow, I can’t begin to tell you what a blast I have had with their things!
Lastly, but not because of any reason , just the order my fingers chose today…I need to thank Authentique Paper.  They are of course the paper company that is the star of this canvas.  I am so grateful for the entire staff at Authentique Paper.  Beautiful people making beautiful paper products.  They have been beyond kind and generous and I truly love them all for so many reasons.
All three companies have been extremely generous and I have to say how humbled I am to have them allow me to put my name on things while representing their companies and products.
Ok, I hope you can understand why I feel a need to say a big thanks and why I am very thankful for this project today~!
I have been playing around with some different shrink films from Grafix Arts.
I had this image of doing a tree and having different charms dangling off of it.
The tree is cut from my Cricut.  I colored it with permanent markers before I baked it.
For all my charms, I scanned some of the Uncommon Noteables and printed them on to the Ink Jet Shrink film.
Although the color is not exactly the same as the real Authentique Paper colors, I liked how they look slightly antique.
I am still playing around with the coloring since the colors get more intense as the shrink film bakes.
To finish the canvas, I added lots of dangling glass beads and things.
This was so much fun to make, I loved the entire process.
I would love to hear what you think.
Well, that is it for me today.  I hope you have enjoyed my altered canvas.

23 Sep

I had some very important things to share and forgot to yesterday!!

Guess what?  I have WINNERS!!  WINNERS to announce!!

Well 1 winner..

Donna Woods…COME ON DOWN…(in my best Bob Barker voice)

Donna is the winner of my prize package for the Paper Issues Blog hop.

She has won a sampler pack(put together by me) of Authentique Paper.

Donna…believe it or NOT..I have your address….

PS..I will send you Pennies for the Ferry Man too!

Plus your special order card:)

Ok…also I need to give a HUGE thank you to CANVAS CORP.

I have been making some fun things with their products.

They have the most UNBELIEVABLE variety of things.

Over the next couple of weeks, I will be posting things as I get them done!

Here is my first card I have made with their Black & Kraft Papers.

This card is yet another Shelf Card.

Do you remember my 1st one?

You can see it HERE.

When I first attempted this pattern, I was using a normal grade of card stock (not Canvas Corp).  I have to say, I had a terrible time assembling the 1st card, because of the lack of durability of the OTHER card stock I was using. Also the pattern was messed up.  I sent it over to my friend Christina of CG SAYS, and she tweeked it…but I will have to let her know what else needs to be fixed…we are ALMOST THERE with this pattern!

When making this card, I had no problem what so ever.

I used Canvas Corp Black & Kraft Gourmet Sampler, Bon Appetit Reverse and Ribbon Stripe.  The Black & Craft paper is very sturdy and perfect to make 3-d types cards with.

I wanted to create a card that went along with the theme of the paper, so I embellished it with kitchen cut-outs.  The phrase says “We knead some mix thoroughly time soon.”

This is perfect for me to give to my hubby because with 7 kids, there is not much time for the 2 of us.

I have to tell you about the other items I used to make this too.

I think I would be lost without all my AUTHENTIQUE PAPER  PETITE TYPEs.

They are always the perfect finishing touch on so many of my creations.

All the paper cut outs come from the Cricut Cartridge called FROM MY KITCHEN, a fun, fun cartridge!

My finishing touch is the sticker of the babies in front.  Isn’t that the perfect touch.  I have a lot of these stickers by Jone Bergquist Hallmark.

I hoard them an only use them on the very special projects of mine, since I am pretty sure they are out of print.

Focusing back on CANVAS CORP, I have to say their papers, (I like to think) were designed with me in mind.

They have (HANDS DOWN) the best black and white polka dot paper in the WORLD…I will never regret saying that!

Here is an older card I made and can you believe how that polka dot paper just pops out at you and totally MAKES this card?

How do you like the cherry die cuts?

I picked up that die at a thrift store for $.25.  What a steal!

I will be back in the next couple of days with more things.  Be sure to stop by on Sunday August 25, 2011, for my tutorial with Authentique Paper.

My plan for that post is to leave you speechless…tell what you think after I post!

For now…have a great weekend!

Sketch Challenge…Are you ready???

11 Sep

As it is September 11th, I could not write a post and pretend that my thoughts are not heavy with memory of this day 10 years ago.

This will be my “I know exactly what I was doing” when the events of 9-11-2001 happened.  This is a picture from a very old scrapbook of mine.  This was taken on 9-12-2001, our firestation had the flags at half mass and my kids were gazing up to the flag.

A friend of mine asked to have this message shared:

“On this 10 th Anniversary I would wish everyone take a minute and remember what happened on 09/11/2001. Don’t ever forget. Be humbled by the loss and strengthened by the heroism. If you see and member of the armed forces, thank them for their service and be respectful of this date. The date that will forever be etched into our lives and our Generation. May the Angel’s fly high and the lost soar to the heavens with the glory and peace as their comfort.”

I just wanted to share my thoughts before delving into the Crafty things I have to share today.

Now, to switch gears, to my project for today’s post:

One of the teams I am on, Paper Issues, is the sponsor for the new Sketch at Sketch Inspiration!

Hope you can play along!
If you go over to Sketch Inspiration you can view the details of the challenge, click HERE.
Here is our sketch for this challenge:
This challenge starts today, September 11, 2011 and goes through till September 17, 2011.
Right now on Paper Issues our theme is LEARNING CURVE.
I have a habit of forgetting my camera at home and had to ask for a volunteer for some 1st day of school pics…
Luckily I had a taker and here is my creation for them, based on the sketch above.
This was a fun, FUN page to make.
To begin with I have to put a plug-in for Tally Scrapper.com.
Most of the paper is from the September Tally Kit.  Fabulous things all matched and coordinated for you by one of the most talented designers I have ever had the pleasure of working with.
You can order yours HERE:
I thought the paper was perfect for this little girl layout! The apples are from a file from My Scrap Chick.
Everything else is just a mixture of coordinating things I had on hand.
I especially love the made up heart “APPLE”.  I love just making up my own things.
I used to think that things like dimension and sewing on pages was a total DIVA thing, but I guess I have turned my self into a DIVA because now, I love to sew and add dimension to my pages and cards.  I have learned to never say never, that’s for sure!
I know you will love the prize shown at the top of this post.  You have a week!
Meaning a whole week to get a layout done and get yourself entered for that prize.
Get yourself over to Sketch Inspirations, get the sketch printed and start scrappin!
If you do, link back to me or let me know so I can see what you have created!
For now..I am off to clean up one very messy and unorganized scrap room!
Wish me lunch and have a great rest of your Sunday.

January Guest Designer for My Time Made Easy…..YEAH!!!!

31 Dec

1st of all just let me say:

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

Now that I got that said, onto my post 🙂

Have you been over to the MY TIME MADE EASY blog nand website?  If not, you are in for a serious treat.  They have the most amazing cut files, digi papers, digi stamps and acrylic stamps.

I have to say they are one of my favorite all time places to go to for inspiration, products and files.

Their cut files(templates) are truly flawless and so much fun to work with.

January 1, 2011 marks the release of their new line called

SO FORTUNATE.  I have had so much fun creating with everything in this line.  I am so happy to show you today what things I have made.

The things that I have used are:

So Fortunate © – Pretty Packaging © Template

So Fortunate © 24 Images – Acyrlic Stamp Set

What’s My Fortune? Cookie © Pretty Pieces © Cut File

Blooming Cherries, Fun and Fortune and Plum Pretties Printables Digital Papers

I have made 2 different sets to show off.

First let’s go with my PINK project!

I wanted to really make my Cherry Blossoms stand out, they were taller than the box they way I did it, so I just made and additional wrap around handle and sewed all around my stamped images to really make them stand out.

She is soo cute.  Can you see that adorable TINY fortune cookie I made.  That was my own creation 🙂

That cookie is so small, a nightmare to do 🙂  But remember that is MINE not My Time Made Easy, because nothing of theirs is a nightmare.

Now, onto my PURPLE project.

I have to show off here a little bit.  You see that fortune cookie hanging off the take out box, that is made from wool.  I used the .pdf of the What’s my fortune cookie cut file and transformed it into a durable wool felt fortune cookie

It can be used over and over again.  I secured it to the handles with a ball chain.

So you notice how the lantern is 3-D?  I stamped the image about 20 times and cut it out to create that thumb sized lantern.

Here you can really see the dimension.

No this is NOT a mauve project, just was hard to get a good shot, it was night time.

This is the inside of the card.

Wouldn’t this be a great gift set to recieve?  The fortune attached to the take out box says, “Chinese takeout is in your future”

This new release from My Time Made Easy  new release wouldn’t be fun without several great ideas, so be sure you visit the team for an amazing BLOG HOP, packed with inspiration for the New Year!

Those are the words from the MY TIME MADE EASY folks!  Have fun on the HOP!!  Try their things, I promise you will not be disappointed!

One picture, SO MANY OPTIONS!!

24 Nov

Another of my top 10 people who have inspired me and has had a great impact on me is Therese Travis.  Therese’s Design Team for PAPER FACES DESIGNS, was the very 1st team I wan invited(or allowed) to be on.  I am proud to say I am still with her and she will have a hard time getting rid of me:)

The other day, I shared with you the tutorial of how to create a card with a Digital stamp and Digital Papers.  Todays techniques have some same steps, but are different in many ways.  To view the tutorial on Digital Stamps with Digital Papers you can click here to view the post.

Today, I am using Therse’s Angel Miriam.  You can purchase Miriam for your own personal use here.  I will show you how to use a .svg file and also how to use Miriam as a DIGI STAMP for 3 beautiful cards.

For my.svg card, I am using a version that Therese created for me so that I can cut it out on my Cricut.

You will start with your file opened up in your cutting software.

Please note, I have warped the pattern to hopefully protect Therese’s image. 🙂  The image will open up all grouped together.

My next step is to discard what I won’t use.  Or to be safe HIDE what you do not need and at this point, I group them on my mat how I want them to cut.

I am pretty picky about trying to save paper.  So I go with the minimum of paper I can go with to cut my files.  You can see on the next image, I have divided the pieces up into what color I will cut them out on.

Next I measure my colored paper out to fit the image on my template and adhere the paper to the cutting mat. That is the next image you are seeing.

Next you will see my pieces are cut and ready to go!  Yes, I warped the picture again:)

Jeannie tip here…When working with certain files, such as Therese’s Fairies, angels, or anything with faces or cirles etc, as I am removing them from the cutting mat, I turn them over and put a small dot on the TOP so I know which is the top and the bottom.  Might sound silly, but it has really helped in my assembling process.

I have gathered all the supplies to complete this card.  In one place..it helps the picture taking process tremendously!!

It is always important to add some depth to you pieces by sponging them with a neutral color.

My next step is to emboss my background and assemble my word art on cardstock.  I sponge these with a dark color and edge with a gold stamp pad.

Here is Miriam all assembled and ready for her card.

Time for the bow.  I use an empty cup and tie a knot on the cup.

I then cut the ribbon on the opposite side of where I just tied my nice knot.

At this point I have a for tailed ribbon, take the ends that you cut and adhere them around an attach behind your card with tape.

At this point, I forgot I needed to mat Miriam with white paper, so find a scrap and “bubble cut” around her.

Next, put dimensional adhesive on the back of Miriam and the word art.

Assemble the rest of the items and that is how I use an .svg file.

Here is a comparison with a card that I did with the DIGI stamp and colored cardstock.  I love the way it looks..but with the .svg file, the CRICUT does the cutting, with the DIGI, I do the cutting.

I also tried a different techiique I can show you later if anyone is intrested.  It uses the DIGI stamp also.  Here is the final product.

Here are the TRIO.  Which do you like best?

I have had an idea brewing for a while now and today I am putting my plan into ACTION.  There are so many crafty people in this world.  So many different styles and personalities.  I get inspiration from many sources and today I am going to start a monthly spotlight of my TOP 10 people who inspire me.  To go along with my Spotlight, I will have a unique giveaway catered to the STYLE of the person I am spotlighting.  Some of my Favorite People, will actively participate, I will let all of them know.  So today, let me introduce you to one of my favorite, most creative, spunky, fun and amazing people.

Her name is Deena Ziegler.

I happened upon Deena’s website, a while back and was instantly drawn to her style.  I think my style is very much like hers, since we seem to use a lot of the same colors, etc in our projects.  However, I am no match for Deena.  Google her name and you can see how busy this lady is.  A couple of my favorite links on Deena:

On her blog she often features her children and I love that she is really modest and down to earth.  She is sweet and caring and is a real person.  She has this to say about what she does:

“First, I’m a mom to two girls that are growing up quicker than I’d like. They keep me busy with school activities and horseback riding. They both love to craft and join me in my work room every day. They especially like to use up all my adhesive and smash my marker tips. When my second daughter was a toddler and I was in full stay at home mom mode I accepted an invitation to teach at my local scrapbook store where I still teach to this day.

Soon I had started teaching a class called Creative Cards. Attendance was up and down but I kept at it for the last seven years and now have two sold out classes every month. I appreciate each and every one of my customers and I cherish the personal relationships that I have with them. While I don’t see an end in sight for my in person teaching I was ready to take Creative Cards to a new level.  I now offer my kits to anyone out of my teaching area or for those that just can’t make it to class and Creative Cards Homeschool was launched.”

You can read her full ABOUT ME BIO, here:  http://deenaziegler.typepad.com/my_weblog/about.html

Having mentioned Creative Cards Homeschool, I can not give this enough praise.  I have been a participant for quite a while now.  I do not feel that I need to have guidance for making cards.  I can easily come up with my own designs.  But, what I love about Deena’s Creative Cards Homeschool are:

  • The assortment of DIES that she uses
  • Her color combinations
  • Her vast assortment of Ribbons and Buttons
  • Her Whimsical Phrases
  • Her hard work to precut and package everything
  • The CONVENIENCE of having everything in one package

I am not in a position to own or have access to all that Deena has, so it is kind of like she is SHARING not only her talent, but her STASH with us!  What I usually do and am going to show you today, is how you can either use her card kit and follow her pattern and guidelines, OR do what I do, use the supplies and make your own MAGIC!  I love the challenge of taking all the things that has been designated for one card and trying to make the card completely my own.  I usually have success, sometimes it can be hard, but most times it works.  Take a tour of OCTOBER’S CREATIVE CARDS HOMESCHOOL KIT:
