Farewell Cheery Lynn, You’ve Rocked My World

28 Sep
Hello everyone, Jeannie here with my last post for Cheery Lynn Designs.
I have been with these guys for a couple of years and I will miss working with Mike and BJ.
Obviously this card is dedicated to them.
Cheery Lynn Designs was my first Manufacture Design Team, so I have a lot of gratitude for them helping me get my name out there.
You can’t see behind the Celtic Whimsy Band, but I’ve got a portion of the lyrics to Bohemian Rhapsody behind it.  I needed something behind it to make it stand out a little more.
So Mike and Bj…this is it..our time is over..your crazy designer, that made things like no one else did.
Your crazy, whimsical girl!

Shopping Girl’s Dream

7 Sep
This is a little shadow box I got for $1.00 at Hobby Lobby in the clearance section because what ever was in the shadow box had been ripped off.
Knowing I would use it at some point, yep, I bought the silly thing.
I’m so lucky to have all my Cheery Lynn Designs Dies to work with. Here is what my $1.00 “purchase” turned out like.
Improvement, agree?
I took the Reflections Scalloped Circle Die, and used it as a 1/2 circle for the banners at the top.
I framed the sentiment on the bottom with Scalloped Rectangles.
All my papers are by Authentique Paper and the stamp set it called If the Shoe Fits, by Unity Stamp Co.
I think this turned out adorable and I hope you enjoyed my post today.  This has been Jeannie from The Polka Cabana posting for Cheery Lynn Designs.

Why is this caged bird singing?

31 Aug
Did you get my reference to the famous book?
I am still having a ton of fun with dies from the August New Release.
The new dies I have used on the card are Bird Cage, Hummingbird, Celtic Whimsy and Embellishment #2.
Dies that are not from the new release are Scalloped Rectangle’s, and Mini Fanciful Flourish.
I am so impressed with the intricate pattern of the Celtic Whimsy.  It cut easily and is such an impressive pattern.  This is easily one of my new favorites.
I also love the new Bird Cage.  What a gorgeous design.
Have you had a chance to head on over to our Challenge blog?
I just peeked and we are up to 41 entries already!  WOW, it’s not even the weekend yet.
The theme is anything goes.  Remember you do need to use a Cheery Lynn Designs dies in your project/card to qualify, but still anything goes?  What have you got to lose?
Have a great weekend!  This has been Jeannie from The Polka Cabana with today’s Cheery Lynn Designs post.

Masculine Card with Tutorial

8 Jun
Hello everyone..Jeannie here with a little tutorial with a different variation of the card I made last week.
Last week I used the REFLECTIONS SCALLOPED CIRCLES to make this card.
Today, I am using the REFLECTIONS MINI PEAR: FRENCH FLAIR for my card.
To start, I cut out 4 squares using the 4th largest die and then one square for the card base with the 5th largest die.
Here are the cut papers all stacked up, you can see the base is just one size larger than the card pieces.
Take each card piece(not the base) and fold them in half down the middle.
Adhere them to the card base, forming a cross type pattern, shown here.
Two pieces are on the bottom,
the other two are on the top.
Here is what it looks like from the back with the base facing up.
To fold the card closed, start with the right flap, then the bottom,
then the left flap,
then fold the top down and tuck half of it under the the flap your first folded in.
This is the same way you fold packing boxes, get it?
Here it is, all closed up and ready to embellish.
So my card is dedicated to that theme.
I used the SCALLOPED SQUARE NESTING DIES for my card front panels.
I also used the Dotties Ric Rac and Ribbon Eyelet dies for some extra embellishing.
All of the paper and stamps are from CLOSE TO MY HEART.
All of my inks are from Stampin’ Up!
Doesn’t this card remind you of that Route 66 song?
I think it is the perfect MANLY card!
I hope you have enjoyed this brief tutorial today.

When is a circle not a circle?

1 Jun
Do you like that title?  When is a circle not a circle?  When it is a square!!!
The reason that’s my title is because the main part of this card is made out of the
I wanted to point out a couple of things about the REFLECTIONS DIES.
They are very versatile, you can mix and match the sets, you can use them for cards, scrapbook pages and even sentiments and tags.
This card not only uses the Scalloped Circle Reflections set, but also the Mini Pearl French Flair set.
On the dark blue base you can see how elegant the Mini Pearl French Flair is.
I also used the Mini Pearl French Flair to create all my sentiment tags.
The tags were then embellished with rub-ons, Flourish Leaf Strip, Pretty Petal and mini pearls.
Here you can see how this unique card opens up.
You can see how the card is created with the 4 circles.
It is opened and closed the same way you open and close a packing type box.
Here is the inside all decorated also.
I just love this type of card!
I hope you can see just how much fun you can have with our Reflections Dies.  The possibilities are endless.  It is like buying 3 types of dies all in one shot.  Scrapbooking, card making and tag/sentiment dies all in one!

Cheery Lynn Designs May 2012 New Release Dies

15 May

Well, it is time again to shout to the world that Cheery Lynn Designs has another set of incredibly tempting dies that are being released to the public today!

We have lace and fairies and alphabets and fish and flowers and leaves and so much more!

For the card below, I am using  the following new dies:

KOI FISH and LOWERCASE LACE SCRIPT.

I have also used ECCENTRIC CIRCLES EMBOSSING PLATE and WITTLE WEAVERS.

I used a play on the word KOI with my card.

The front reads “Let’s be KOI”

This is the inside, a quote that a friend had sent me and it worked perfectly for the inside of my card.

One last look.

For this card, I am using the fabulous new release die called: WINDOW C.

I had so much fun with this die.

My scene is peaking through the window, as you can see.

A closer look at the beach scene.

Instead of just using this as a window, I created a door/shutter effect by opening up the window down the middle.

When the front is opened it reveals the whole scene and the phrase.

I used the AT THE BEACH die for the inside of the card.

Here it is all tied up again.

This last project is made with a CHUNKY CANVAS from no other than the divine CANVAS CORP.

The new release dies I have used are: ONE FREE WISH and FLOURISH LEAF STRIP.

The other dies I used are :  WITTLE WEAVERS and MEDIUM ROSE.

I just love this.  It is not my normal color scheme, but it is one of my favorite things I have made.

As always, I drew inspiration from the little image in the bottom right by Mary Engelbreit.

I did lots of paper piecing on the ONE FREE WISH to create a truly one of a kind image.

Now I am just giving you a sampling of the new dies.  To see the whole New Release, be sure to head on over to Cheery Lynn Designs.com.

I would love for you to see what other things our Design Team has come up with, so be sure to go check out the inspiration from our blog.

Have a great day and thank you for stopping by, get on over and see the fun stuff in the store and on the blog!

New Dies From Cheery Lynn Designs **FAINT**

24 Feb
Today I am using the LACE OVAL REFLECTIONS die to make a unique banner.
To start out I cut a lot of ovals from the largest die in the LACE OVAL set.
I use the Sizzix Big Shot and I can still use the largest die, by folding my paper in half and cutting the shape.  I will have a fold line down the center, but for this project, that doesn’t matter.
Here you can my folded ovals, cut, still in half, and then I scored the ovals at 1/2″ increments.
Here are the same papers, opened up at their full size.
Can you believe how big those are and that I cut something that big from a Big Shot?
Once again, here the oval has just been cut, the paper in folded down the middle…
…voilà, here the same paper from above has been opened to it’s full size, it’s like magic!!
I am making 2 different shapes for my banner.  To make the flower shaped base, I need 3 of the largest ovals.
Here they are cut, and scored at 1/2″ increments.
Here the same ovals are, folded accordion style on the scored lines.
Fold the accordion folded ovals in half.
Hot glue the centers of each oval.
Then hot glue the 3 ovals together, they will look something like this.
Fan the outer edges open to meet each other on the other side and hot glue the remaining edges to form the flower shape.
The other banner shape I created is a butterfly shape.  For the butterfly you will need 2 ovals, folded, scored and glued in the same manner as the flower shapes.
Because we I only have 2 ovals, when I flair the ovals around to glue, the ovals create this butterfly shape instead of the flower shape.
To string all the shapes, I cut a paper towel tube up and glued them to the back of each shape.
After embellishing the fronts, I strung 2 layers of tulle through all the shapes to create the SPRING banner.
To embellish the fronts, I used the SWEDISH SPRING OVAL in the centers of each shape.
I had some large letters that I used to spell the word SPRING and then added lots of Cheery Lynn Designs flowers from The Floral Shop.
All the bright and Cheery paper is from Momenta.
Here you can see the letters more close up.
I just love all the colors and patterns!
Here is one last look!
I hope you have enjoyed this post today.
Hopefully you can see just how versatile the REFLECTIONS dies are.
You can just do anything with these dies, at least it seems like that to me!

The theme is FRAME IT.

New Dies from Cheery Lynn Designs

15 Sep

Today’s post is to alert you that Cheery Lynn Designs has released another set of gorgeous Dies.

Today the NEW dies I am using are called:

Lace Rose & Flourishes

Stacker Flower #5

Stacker Leaf #1

Other dies used:

French Flair

Heartland America Large

Border Carnivale

This card posed some difficulty photographing.  I hope I have done my project justice.

Isn’t that Stacker flower just gorgeous??

To mimic the banner on the Pink Paislee paper, I used the circle’s from the Heartland America Large heart.

Here is a close up of the added fun I did on the Lace & Rose Flourish.

I filled each part of the flower and leaves with DG3 Art Gel and then added the beads and glitters.

The paper lace gather border was made with the Border Carnivale.

Here you can see how the card opens up.

You can see that this is just a treat of layers.

Be sure to head on over to Cheery Lynn Designs Blog to see the other dies that our Design Team has created things with.

We were all given different dies, so head on over to what the others have made.

Thanks for stopping by, you are going to love this release of dies, I promise you!!

Cheery Lynn Designs and Core’dinations go Native!!

19 Aug
Today I am paying tribute to my heritage. I am Native American and part of the Navajo tribe.
I was inspired to focus on some Navajo designs for today’s post.
Here are 2 of my favorite images I found that my cards today are based off of.

Where do I begin to tell you what Core’dinations paper and Cheery Lynn Designs dies I used?

For my paper I used paper from the Core’dinations Whitewash and Vintage Collections.

As for dies, I used the Fanciful Flourish as a mask for the card base and sprayed some Turquoise Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist to create that beautiful background. I then took as assortment of dies and cut and or embossed all the detail for my “pottery” vase. The pottery base was embossed with the Burble/Cheesecloth Embossing Plate. I used the following dies, listed in order from the bottom of the vase and working my way up. Japanese Lace, Wittle Wicker, Border Carnivale, Ribbon Eyelet w/Piercing, Pennant, Japanese Lace, Border Carnivale, Daisy Chain and Heart Chain.

For my lettering, I used the Optimistic 1/2″ dies. Ya’at’eeh means HELLO in Navajo.

I did a lot of sanding on these cards, I mean a lot. Core’dinations has a wonderful tool called the Sand It Gadget which makes sanding pretty painless. I do want to pass a top secret Polka tip onto you however. If you have narrow pieces or small pieces like I do in today’s cards, lie the Core’dinations paper “sanding needed” side facing up on a piece of fine sandpaper. You can see in my photo below I have all my pieces on the sandpaper, the Sand It block is pictured towards the back. By placing your pieces on top of sandpaper and then using the Sand It Gadget, your pieces will stay put! The sandpaper underneath works like velcro not allowing the paper to move while you sand. You still want to hold the pieces in place while sanding, but trust me this works like magic!

For this card I mostly used paper from the Core’dinations Black Magic Collection.

I cut paper in 4 different colors with the Dottie’s Ric-Rac die. I cut pieces from both sides of the paper and then intertwined them together.

The yellow frame is the Japanese Frame. I also used the Stitcher plate on the black background to give it texture.

I used tons of extras on this to make it special. I used twine, hot fix silver studs, jewelry findings, glass beads, silver charms ribbon and silver string.

What do you think? So colorful, don’t you agree?

I hope you enjoyed seeing my cards today!

I might have to mail these to my Grandma…look at her, isn’t she adorable?
Now be sure to hop on over to the Core’dinations blog and see what their DT has made with the Cheery Lynn Designs dies….
Have a Fabulous Friday and a great weekend.

Need a favor from you all!! Great gift idea!!

11 Aug

I had the pleasure of connecting with a very talented graphic artist.

The name of her business is Modern Typography.

I did a formal review for her on the Simply Stacie Blog.

I am posting today to give you a closer look at the family tree I have created out of the print I received for my review.

For my review, I got to choose my own print to have personalized.

Imagine Modern Typography‘s surprise when I wrote and asked if could be personalized with 7 kids.

Her sample was for a nice small family.

She worked on it and gave me many options.

This was my order and I was very, very happy with it!

She personalizes everything to suit your needs.  You can even choose your own quote or scripture.

Look at the extra freebies she enclosed!  Such cute things~!

Now you know I love paper and I am always making something.

I know that tree would have been fine as is…but something in me just can’t leave well enough alone.

So I took some things from my August Tally Kit, came up with this lovely piece of art.

The Kit is called BEAUTIFUL SOUL and you can still get one of these kits HERE for $21.00.

I just love the way this turned out!  How bout you?

Imagine making something like this for a newly married couple and leaving the branches blank to fill in along the way.

Or what about a gift for a grandma with all her grandchildren listed?

So many ideas I could come up with.

I used many Cheery Lynn Design dies on this, so I do have to make a plug for them also!

I would love for you to visit her ETSY store.

http://www.etsy.com/shop/ModernTypography

Please do consider her and use her for any gift occasions you have coming up!  Really, I think her things are fantastic and very unique!  Perfect for so many occasions!

Visit her and like her on FACEBOOK to keep up on what she is doing.

Also, go on over to the Simply Stacie blog and get in on the giveaway, I am hoping there is someone out there who will not want to wait for the giveaway to be over and purchase something now…so there you have it..my hope for the day!
