What do creative minds do on rainy days??

20 Jan

As my title asks, what do creative minds do on rainy days?

Do we cook? NO!!

Do we clean house? NO!

Do we catch up on laundry?  HECK NO!

We …..  CREATE!

It is a rainy, I am so happy to say that, we need it so badly.

Today I am going to show you a card I have made for JW Illustrations.

JW stands for Jessica Weible, just so you know!

I am using her Valentine Car Stamp, that just so happens to be ON SALE right now!!!

Here is what I came up with.

I am so blessed to have so many different items to play around with.

What I mean is, this card is a compilation of many companies that I work with, love and happily endorse!

As already mentioned the adorable car is by JW Illustrations.  I love digital stamps because there is so much you can do with them.

You can use your favorite papers or stamps, the possibilities are endless.

As for the products I have used today here is a little list:

Stamp – Valentine Car Stamp – JW Illustrations

Paper – Authentique Papers – Freebird – Delight

Letter Stickers – Authentique Paper – Miracle Collection

Stamps – Unity – Authentique Paper – You + Me = Bliss

Embossing Powder – Wow Embossing Powder – BUBBLE GUM, WHIRLY POP & GUMMY BEAR GREEN

Rhinestuds – Rhinstone Hues – Etsy

What do you think?  Do you use Digital Stamps?  If so, what is your favorite thing to do with them?  I’d love to know!

Ok…I am done for today!  I might make another something for tomorrow…you never know!

Have a great day!

Sweet Stamps.com Anniversary Card

7 Jun

Today, I am so excited to show you my fun card.

It is a new week and Challenge 18 is starting.  The random winner of this challenge will receive a $20.00 gift certificate to Sweet Stamps.com.

The theme of this weeks challenge is:

WEDDING/ANNIVERSARY

The stamps and supplies I have used are:

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY 977C

LAMBKINS FOR YOU 645

HEARTLAND AMERICA LARGE DIE DL110

Here is what I came up with.

Now, when you look at this you might realize that I have the sheep facing one another.  I thought this would be cute for an Anniversary card.

The above image is to give you a closer look at the detail I put into the heart and the floral necklaces on the sheep.

Aren’t they so cute touching noses together?

To do this, I stamped the sheep on plain white paper, then scanned the image onto my computer.  I then turned it into a digital stamp and was able to copy the other sheep and reverse the direction of one of the sheep, so I got this effect.

I love the intricate cutwork on the heart I used in the center.  The Heartland America Die is a gorgeous die.

Now, hopefully I have sparked a new idea for you.  I turned my stamp into a digi stamp, I paper pieced the sheep, I used only a PORTION of the Heartland America Die and I embellished with pearls, glitter and paper pieced flowers.  Just look at all the techniques I am teasing you with!

If you have any questions about a specific technique, be sure to ask me.  You can contact me through the CONTACT ME at the top of my blog page.

I hope yu have enjoyed this card.  It was a ton of fun to make.  Now get on over to SWEET STAMPS.COM blog and play along on our challenge, leave a comment over there making sure that you let them know Jeannie from The Polka Cabana sent you!

Have a great week and thanks for stopping by.

Some ADORABLE DIGI stuff!!

28 Mar

I have not had much time to play around with Digital stuff.  Now that I did these 2 layouts, I remember that I miss it!!

If you are here for the PAPER ISSUES BLOG HOP, Click HERE.

These are done with the kit called COLORFUL EASTER by Tatiana Pittigliani.

You can find her blog here:

http://pittiscrap.blogspot.com/

The best thing about her designs?

COLOR and WHIMSY!

She has a ton of both.

Here is a snapshot of the new COLORFUL EASTER kit.

Here are the 2 layouts I have done with the kit.

I purposely chose to not do Easter themed pictures.  I think it is important to show the versatility of a kit.

Obviously you could do a great Easter layout, I mean look at all those fun elements.

But, I did 2 layouts that had nothing to do with Easter and the kit was still great fun.

I hope you liked that kit as much as I do!

Head on over to http://pittiscrap.blogspot.com/ to see the other Design Team creations!

Have a great Thursday!!

It’s a Blue Tuesday

1 Feb
Now, that is not meant to be a depressing title.  My projects today are a a combined effort for Cheery Lynn Designs and Paper Faces Designs by Therese Travis.   I figured since they both offer things that are not of the same category, there is no “conflict of interest” going on here.
Christina of CG SAYS SOMETHING LOUDLY, came up with our Challenge theme I have followed. A one word theme: BLUE.

POLKA CABANA NOTE:
I am dedicating this post to some friends I have made on a different website called, Theme Worx.  I won’t name them by name, since I have not asked persmission.
When I was given the BLUE challenge and made my card, I looked at here and wanted to name her INDIGO.  I have learned a whole new world is attached to this color, that I never knew existed.  If you have not heard this color used in reagards to personalities of people, it is a very facsinationg subject.  So my card, which is I now refer to as INDIGO, is dedicated to those 2 special people that have shared some very personal and wonderful information with me.

This actually turned into quite a challenge. I used nothing but the one Therese Travis Digi Stamp and then nothing else but Cheery Lynn Designs products.  Challenging, yes, but fun too!

The way I made my project interesting, without being boring, is with all the different patterned papers in the BLUE scheme.

Here is Angel Meggie, all decked out with the help of Cherry Lynn Designs dies and other fun stuff.

Here is a close up of the banner above Meggie’s head. Can you see those tiny bows, and what, are those glass beads hand sewn to those PRETTY PETAL flowers?

Why yes they are.

I admit, I went a little overboard on this card, and I loved every minute of it!

Here is a close-up of the banner, cut from the PENNANT DIE.

I just kept the inside, fairly simple. The phrase reads, “Friend: One who knows all about you and loves you just the same.” Such a true statement.

In the corner are a trio of PRETTY PETAL flowers.

Here’s a close-up so you can see their dimension and detail.

On this last picture, before you navigate away from us, look closely at the background papers. I cut the scalloped rectangle using the dies with the same name, SCALLOPED RECTANGLE. Look even more closely, the paper that in under the SCALLOPED RECTANGLE piece, has been pierced with the new PIERCE PLATE. I am having a blast with those and the stitching plates. They make a fabulous look and texture on plain, hum drum cardstock. Lastly, the base of my card(white), is embossed with the BANDANA embossing plate.

I could have stopped here, but why?  Christine had mentioned these cards called Waterfall Cards.  I showed one the other day that I made for Tiffany Doodles new flower stamp releases.  You can see that card here, and compare the two cards.

Bear with me as I share many pictures, I am doing this so you can get an idea of how the WATERFALL CARD works.  With this card, I have again used one of Therese’s stamps.  But it is only the Flowers from here Heart Wreath.

The WATERFALL card has 4 different images.

As you pull the ribbon, each image is revealed, one at a time.

After one image is shown and the ribbon is pulled, the previous images cascades and falls behind the image you just viewed.

Here is the last of the 4 images, the others are all tucked neatly behind the last image.

Here is a side view, as the Waterfall begins.

With such a complex fron, I just left my inside plain.  I did make a tiny little flower and thought it would be neat to incorporate Thereses store name in the flower.

One last view of this wondrful card.

That is has been my BLUE TUESDAY for you. Thanks for visiting The Polka Cabana today.
I know that all of us on the PAPERFACES Design Team are revealing a challenge.  I do not have the specifics, but, as soon as I get them I will add them to this blog post.
The Cheery Lynn Designs products used in my cards today are as follows. All products have the link embedded in their product names.

Come back again, pretty please???

Tiffanys Doodles and Sweet Stamps

26 Jan

My apologies to Tiffany for getting this posted late. I had the most eye-opening shopping experience with my BIRTHDAY GIRL today. Where? Our local KMART! Little did I know that on a day like a BIRTHDAY, Kmart is kin to DISNEYLAND to a new 4-year-old. Now I am home, finished up my card and talking to you! Tiffany is just going gangbusters with the new shop and is creating Digi magic in her sleep I think. I can’t keep up with here. She has some of the most gorgeous flower Digis going in the store this Friday.

Here is a sneak peek at all of them.

These are sized to fit into the Spellbinders LARGE OVAL NESTIE.  But, since I am a CHEERY LYNN GIRL, I do not have those dies:)

I have done my own thing with this beautiful flower called  Nicotiana.

The card I made is called a WATERFALL card.  It is the 2nd one I have made as sort of a dare to my friend Christina over at CG SAYS.

So, I have to say, this card is dedicated to her!

All of these flowers can be purchased starting Friday January 28, 2011 on the Tiffany Doodles website.

Next, I have to let you know, I have accepted another team position.  This one was a no brainer since:

#1 – It is designing with REAL STAMPS

#2 – I am working with someone I already know is AWESOME to work with.

Here is the blog announcement:

Announcing the Sweet Stamps Design Team

We want to thank everyone who applied for a spot on the new Sweet Stamps Design team.  We had a wonderful turn out and it was not an easy task.  But we are excited to introduce you to our new team….

I think we will start creating in February, I hope to have some great things to show you.  For now, I am late getting kids from school, I have gotta get, get get!

Let me introduce…

21 Jan

How could I have forgotten to blog about this?

Remember, I have told you that I have had to scale back on the Design Teams I was on.  Right in the interim of my transition of doing this, I had committed to doing some layouts for Tatiana Pittigliani.  I had seen her kits on her blog and knew she was looking for some Creative Team members and well, I said YES!  So, I promised Tatiana I would at least work with a couple of her kits.  I felt I owed it to her after saying yes and then having to revamp my whole life.

She has recently released her kit called Fruit and Flowers.  Here is a peak at the kit.

Here are the pages I have done for the kit.

Here kits are very cute.  They have a certain bright and cheery edge I do not see everywhere, which is why I was drawn to her blog.  Here is my next layout.

I LOVE the above page.  Does that song ring a bell to anyone?  Anyone old enough to love The Carpenter’s with me?

Ok, well, I have more things to do and make, a never-ending process for me.  So I will be back soon, with some more things to inspire you.  Thank you Tatiana, for the great kit to work with.  For now, have a great weekend.

Valentines for the St. Jude Children

16 Jan

I was invited to participate in a Valentine Card drive.  It is a special event, since the recipients of these cards are the children of the St. Jude Children’s hospital.  Some of us from TIFFANY DOODLES are joining Winter Wonderland for this drive.

Those of us participating today are:

Tiffany – TIFFANY DOODLES

Karen – THE BALD DRAGONFLY

Me – THE POLKA CABANA

Kim – PAPERIE PETALS

Collette – HEAVENSENT FOR YOU

Tiffany of Tiffany Doodles was kind enough to let us use some of her digi stamps for this card drive.

To view all the guidelines for the card drive and to participate, head on over to WINTER WONDERLAND.  There is still time and I am sure that every card that St. Jude’s receives will be loved and appreciated.  This is just a quick post to show you some cards I came up with using Tiffany Doodles digi stamps.

This is made with the digi stamp called: CURLY TREE, and is actually not a Valentine digi, but I made it into one.

This one was made with the ELEPHANT  and Cupcake digis, also not Valentine digis, but you couldn’t tell, could you?

I know a lot of people out there are participating in the PAY IT FORWARD thing, this is a great way to pass on some kindness and PAY IT FORWARD to some little ones that could really use a little pick me up.  So if you have some spare time, go and make a couple of Valentines, following the guidelines of course and get them mailed off to Winter of WINTER WONDERLAND no later than January 31, 2011.  Allow time for them to get there, since she lives in Texas.  Once again here is the link to her blog to get all the information.

  WINTER WONDERLAND.

If it’s Tuesday it must be….

28 Dec
Believe it or not, I am not going to share a Christmas card with you.
Can you believe my Christmas tree is already down and Christmas is boxed up and put away.
No, I am not trying to be a bah-humbug, but the house has been turned upside down since we brought the tree home.
Also, if we kept the tree up too much longer, I am afraid our Christmas decorations would keep dwindling, thanks to my 2 little ones who just can’t comprehend the “HANDS OFF” policy.

I am excited to show you my project for, Cheery Lynn Designs, this week.  My little fairy princess, my 3 year old, was my inspiration this week.  She loves princesses.  She loves fairies.  She loves book.  She loves telling stories.
I thought it would be fun to combine all these loves into one project.  I have made a mini book about princesses and fairies for her.
She loves to make up her own stories, so I have included fairies and princesses of all sorts so she can use her imagination and make up her own magical stories.

I hope you enjoyed this little project I have shared with you today. I know my little one does! Imagine all the possibilities with this tiny book die set.
Thank you for stopping by, I will having something new, next week.
The Cheery Lynn dies used in this project are:

Tiny Thoughts Scallops and Rings

Scalloped Square

Buttons 1

Butterfly Bundles

Also since it is Tuesday, that means there is a new sketch and challenge up at Tuesday Trio.

Our leader has been through a tough couple of weeks and I would love to have any of my followers go on over to the TUESDAY TRIO blog and look, participate in a challenge, leave kind words…any and all would be so kind.  Imagine her joy if she had a slew of new participants?

I would love that, bringing someone happiness?  What could be better?

Feel like joining along in our challenge?  Here is our new sketch.  Sketch # 47.

The theme to follow is NEW YEARS.  What could be better?

Here is my take on the sketch:  How did I do with the DIGI flair?  Most of the paper and elements I used were mere FREEBIES I have collected on the way.  Now if it were only free to print all those pages I have done out..that’d be lovely!!

I will have a lot of things to share over the next couple of weeks, I hope you will keep tuning in to THE POLKA CABANA…

My Paper Tree House – Blog Hop Challenge

19 Dec

First I want to say, thank you everyone that stopped by for the blog hop.  I think we will announce winners tomorrow and hopefully you have had time to create a layout or the challenge.

I have been sick, sick and more sick.  Doing a traditional layout just was not going to happen.

So I defaulted to digital for this challenge and managed to still get all the required elements in.

We had a sketch to go on:

We also had random items we collected on the hop to add to the page.  Here were the items:

Sketch

Patterned Papers

Stitching

Bling

Quote – “I have one desire now – it is to live a life of reckless abandon for the Lord, putting all my energy and strength into it.” Elisabeth Elliot

Chipboard

Something Messy ( I used beads)

Lace or Ribbon

1 Flower (oops used more ) 😦

Rub ons or stickers

Buttons

Butterfly

Here is my page with everything except as I just noticed while writing this post, I have too many flowers!!

I do have to say I LOVE IT!!

I did not have a picture of me to use, that matched the phrase.

I used my daughter because right not in her life, she still thinks it is wonderful to talk about Heavenly Father and Jesus.  She loves to tell me when she feels Jesus in her heart.  If I can just figure out a way to keep her feeling those feelings she has now, wouldn’t that be wonderful?

I will be back tomorrow with news from the BLOG HOP, so until then …..I am going back to bed!
