THE PROCESS – from imagination to reality

13 May

My Cheery Lynn Designs card today is one I have had

in my mind to do for quite a while.

Seriously, there are times I feel I might be losing my mind, when I am thinking and dreaming of things I can create or do with paper.

Today’s card is just one of those daydreams.

I knew when I saw the AT THE BEACH set, I wanted to do a card with

MADAME BLUEBERRY and that set combined.

I started cutting out my pieces but knew I also wanted to combine some of the new dies into the card also.  Somehow I wanted to use the new DARLING DAISIES set with this card, but did not know quite where to put them, yet!

I assembled my beach chair and looked at how small it was, and thought, MADAME BLUEBERRY might be a tad too large for it, but it all came together in the end.

Now, do not worry too much, when I start talking like Madame Blueberry is real, on my card, SHE IS, at least to me.

She just got her polka dot bathing suit and just got a summer hair-do.

The AT THE BEACH set comes with some great ocean waves, but since I knew I wanted to use the new DARLING DAISIES set, the ocean scene was not going to work.

I imagine MADAME BLUEBERRY sitting in her backyard, enjoying her beautiful flower garden, while sipping her Lime-aid by the side of her pool.

For the pool, I simply used 2 of the rectangles from the SCALLOPED RECTANGLE set.

So, there you have it!  Yep, I have lost my mind!   I can’t help it.  These VEGGIE TALE dies are just so fun to create these whimsical, fun cards!

Perfect card to give to a teacher, a neighbor or a friend.

Thanks for visiting today!  I hope you like my crazy blog post and the opportunity to see how it is I formulate my card ideas, at least some of the time:)

Have a great weekend and get some sun, put your feet up and have a nice cold lemon-aide or something like that:)

Celebrating Mom with the Veggies

29 Apr
Mother’s Day is right around the corner, May 8, 2011. Have you made your mom a card yet?
I have a cute card to share today. It celebrates all those trying dinners when your mom would tell you to EAT YOUR VEGETABLES. This card is in remembrance of my mom. When she was little, she hated peas! She called them those “squishy little green things.”
I love to think of new things to doe with my VEGGIE TALES dies.
I sit and go through countless puns to use with them.
Here is what I came up with for Mother’s Day.

Now before you get all excited, I do not think there are a mom and daughter duo on VEGGIE TALES. I just made this up with what I had.

I used paper from KAISERCRAFT called

Nan’s Favourites

it all came together perfectly.

Luckily Mama Pea wears about the same size clothes as MADAME BLUEBERRY, so we borrowed some things from her.

Now for my PUN! I ap“PEA”ciate you, get it? (I appreciate you)
Yes, I know I am so punny!
Here is the inside of my card.
I hope you have enjoyed my “SHOW & TELL” today. On a side note, it just hit me, my 1st grader always has Show & Tell on Friday’s too!
I will have to tell him we have that in common!
Until next time! Have a great day and EAT YOUR PEAS!!

Arts and Crafts with your Pet Frog

1 Apr
Now there is a TITLE!
Good thing it is APRIL FOOL’S DAY, right?
I am not about to craft with any reptile!
Today I have a fun project to share.
Hoping to really inspire you all to think BEYOND paper!
By now, you all know I love those Veggie Tale guys, right?
Today I am going to show you how simple it is to take a plain, ordinary outfit and turn it into something really EXTRA-ORDINARY!
Here is my starting items;
A plain white onsie & a $2.00 clearance skort from the neighborhood K-Mart.

With some bits and pieces of felt and material…

…and the Bob the Tomato metal die…

look what you can make!

My ever handy sewing machine does letters.
I just punched my title in and voilà, instant messaging!

Now, I have to admit, I am one of those people who have the greatest hopes to think of something that will make me millions on ETSY, or something like that.
Here is a close up of the onsie for this outfit.

Bare with me, my hopeful “self” got away with me and dreamt up a bunch of future scenarios.
If I find the time to mass produce these, here are some cute alternate messages I could put on the onsies, but these are “Photoshop-ed” shhhh! Don’t tell anyone!
HOLD THE MAYO!

GOT BACON?
(for the non vegetarians:)

FUTURE VEGAN
For my surrounding counties.

VEGGIE PRINCESS
For my 4 year old!

So, there you have it, my future million dollar maker.
Think I have a chance? Let me know what your favorite sayings are!
If you want to special order…well I’ll get back to you on that one!

This has been me, Jeannie, showing you creative ways to use your CHEERY LYNN DESIGNS dies on more than just paper!

On a side note, maybe I will let my kids use the VEGGIE TALE DIES on their ATC CARD SWAP.

If you have kids who like to create, maybe you should hurry up and sign them up!

The swap is for those 4 and up.

The deadline is April 4, 2011.  There is still plenty of time.

Head on over to Bright Eyes + Blue Eyes to see all the details!

I will post the kiddos cards, once we figure out their designs!

I just realized that BIG IDEAS has a new great website for the VEGGIES…you have to go take a look!

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH FUN!!!

Peace, Love & Rock -n- Roll!

18 Mar
How is that for a title?

How is that for a theme?

I have no idea why I came up with this, it just happened.

Jean Claude and Philippe Pea happily volunteered to be my models today.

Let’s go in order, shall we?

PEACE – Veggie Style

Pretty creative huh? What the world needs more of is Peas, right?

These guys are certainly 2 groovy little dudes!

LOVE – Veggie Style

I decided to do this one based on the news of Japan.
I thought about it today when I did not get some good news,
I had really hoped/wished for.
Then I felt bad, being so selfish when Japan is in such a crisis.

All I can do is keep them in my thoughts and prayers and that is just what I will keep on doing.

ROCK & ROLL – Veggie Style

This is just a fun card! I thought that it was a good finish.

Those Peas are such good sports!

Hopefully you can see that having a set like these, you really can make anything you can dream up!
On a personal note by me, that FABULOUS paper  for my WORLD PEAS card is from Memories Emporium on ETSY.

My World Peas card is dedicated to Groovy Deb and the gals over there, miss you all and luv you all!

My Love card is dedicated to Michelle from My Analog Life, and her and I both know why 😦

My Rock and Roll card is dedicated to the Paper Issues team, because of our 1st Blog Hop…we are going to ROCK the WORLD…
…hey, it  could happen!

Saturday treat with Cheery Lynn Designs

5 Mar
Hello Everyone, it is me Jeannie on a Saturday!
Hope you are all having a great weekend.  Today I have such a treat for you, a little tutorial.
You might have seen these flowers in other places, maybe even made them yourself, but I am going to show you where Cheery Lynn Dies will come in and save you some time and sanity with these flowers.
I have no idea if these have a name, I feel like I sort of made my own version here, I am calling it a Cheery Bloom!
How is that for a name?
On with the tutorial.
Here is what I started out with.  Some scrap pieces of paper and my Wittle Wicker 1/4″ stripsdie.

Next, I cut a lot of Wittle Wickers.  Remember these are 1/4 of an inch.
You need a lot of strips to make my Cheery Bloom, do you know how hard it is to cut 1/4 of an inch on my HUGE paper cutter?

Running the paper and die through my Big Shot is a breeze and cuts LOTS of strips at one time. Here are 2 even (approx.) piles ready to go!

I trimmed one pile to be 3 1/2″ long and the other pile to be 2 3/4″ long.

At this point I make sure I have my new love, QUICK DRY Tacky Glue.

I start by getting a pile of glue in the center of a 2 inch circular piece of card stock.
After the glue is in place, I start gluing my strips all around. you want to start with your strips RIGHT SIDE in glue and WRONG SIDE facing up.

Just keep gluing until no more strips will fit.
Fan them all around like you are making a sunshine. Keep a napkin close by to daub and extra glue that is in your way.

At this point I had already started to fold over my strips and started to glue them all down, creating that nice open ribbon look.

Here I am almost done with the BASE layer.

Now I am creating a lot of loops to have so I can start building up the blossom.
I have a small pool of glue on a scrap paper and some on my index finger for QUICK and FAST loop assembly.

Here you can see I have a lot of loops ready to go, and the BLOOM on the left ready for some fluff from those loops.

I once again, created a pool of glue in the center
. Then I just kept grabbing those loops and gluing into that pool of glue.

Here is the BLOOM all completed.

Aerial view, you can see how full and colorful it is. It is about 3 1/2″ to 4″ across.

The CHEERY BLOOM is ready for a project.

Here is where the CHEERY BLOOM landed!  Right on top of a gift box with my PEA duo.

This would be perfect for a newlywed or anniversary gift.
Put some gift cards for some stores or restaurants in it for the happy couple.

For this gift box, I used one that I already had and added some CHEERY LYNN wow to it.

I ran the entire box through the Big Shot with my LARGE STITCHING PLATE to create a wonderful texture on the whole box.
BIG SECRET HERE!
By running it through the machine, it softened the paper up and made folding this intricate box a snap!
The grooves just bent easily into place, it was awesome!

On the side panels, I also ran them through the Big Shot, but this time I used the LARGE CIRCLE STITCH ER PLATE.
It created a wonderful circular pattern on all the panels.
In this picture, I have really adjusted the coloring so you can see the pattern the plates leave.
I also zig-zagged the panels to the box, and I really feel the stitching plates cut down on the chore of running paper through my sewing machine.

So there you have it, my own version of this strip flower.
I have created another type of this flower and I will share that tutorial next week on FRIDAY, my normal day
. So check back with me then! You need a sneak peak?
OK!! I can do that!
Here you go!

This has been Jeannie from The Polka Cabana sharing the joy of Cheery Lynn Dies!

Fridays with Cheery Lynn Designs

25 Feb
I sure do hope some have come by today to see the full project that I gave you all a teaser for last week. Remember that tiny picture I shared? Here it is again.

Well, before I share the rest of this project with you, let me share a card I have made with the little Veggies again. Do you know how versatile these dies are? With a little imagination, these dies can be use for really ANY occasion.

Here is one of the Peas decked out like a Cowboy or would that be a Cowpea?

Over on the Cheery Lynn Design Blog, we have been trying to WOW you with the Cheery Lynn Designs Embossing Plates.  I have used quite a few on this card.

I started by cutting my card with

Circle – Scalloped LG Stackers Nesting Dies

Then I embossed the circle with the RODEO embossing plate.

Because I was using the Core d’ nations cardstock, I was able to lightly sand the card front for the embossing pattern to appear.

Do you like all the dangling tags, they are all different branding iron images.

They are from the embossing plate called RANCH BRANDS/COWBOY BOOTS & HAT.

The boots and hat on the PEA are from the same plate, other side, it is a two sided plate.

Also, the rope the tags are dangling from are from the same plate.  A very versatile plate, if you ask me!

Other products used on this card are OPTIMISTIC 1/2 inch Font set, MOUNTAINS BORDER DIE, and the GALLOPING HORSE die.

I am not a horse person, but hey, I can make a horse person card, any ole’ day!
Now, on to where my comfort zone is!

Cuteness, rhinestones and my kids!

The little teaser last week was a portion of this picture.

My little one LOVES Madame Blueberry!

It was my little one’s 4th birthday not too long ago. I was at Old Navy and found this very inexpensive skirt and clearance.

It was purple and white stripped. I immediately saw(in my head) Madame Blueberry on there and had to get it for my daughter.

I found a plain white shirt to go along with it, here is the Birthday girl modeling her outfit for you.

She just loves her new outfit! It is truly a one of a kind outfit!

Here is a close up of Madame Blueberry on the skirt.

Oh, yes, she is QUITE the princess!

I used a high grade felt for most of Madame Blueberry’s pieces. I used individual rhinestones to write the word PRINCESS above Madame Blueberry’s head.

Now, remember, if you are going to go get some stones, you have to check out Rhinestone Hues on Etsy!

My last tip is that I used a mixture of a high grade fabric glue and Heat n’ Bond to attach things to the clothing. For my machine appliqueing, I used a clear nylon thread!

Hope you have enjoyed this project, imagine all the things you can make using your dies as fabric appliques.

I am sure to have something fun to share next week, so come back and see!  I love to hear from you so please leave me a comments, especially if there is something you’d like to see or know how to do that I have not covered!

TA TA FOR NOW!! This has been Jeannie from The Polka Cabana.

Cheery Lynn, Goodbye Tiffany, Hello Tally!

18 Feb
Ladies and any Gentleman out there.

I have so MANY things to share with you today!
I know you all are needing to have some Veggies, so let me share a couple of cards with you today.
First, here is our favorite duo, Bob and Larry.
What I love about the VEGGIE TALES dies, is the detail each character has.
Look at Larry’s teeth and Bob’s stem. These fine details, really set these dies apart from others.

Here is a fun way to use PA GRAPE. Can’t you just hear him sayin‘ “Who are ya callin‘ old?”

Over the next couple of weeks, I will share cards from a 6 card set I have made with the Veggie Tales characters.

I challenged myself to make a whole set and have them all coordinate with each other. To do this, I precut many pieces of paper all from the same print, gathered all my supplies and went to work. This is a great way to get a lot of cards done at one sitting.

OH!  That reminds me, did you notice I am the Cheery Lynn Friday girl?

Also next Friday, I have a special treat for you.

I have this project DONE, but “conditions” have not been right for the photo shoot. But, how about a mini teaser? OK! Great idea…

Here is a snippet!

HMMM, what can that be?

But you’ll have to come back next Friday for the real thing.

Moving on…Here is a card I did this week.  I did this for Tally Scrapper.  I used all Cheery Lynn Dies on this card.

You will be seeing a lot of things I am doing on TALLY SCRAPPER, since I have joined up on the SURVIVOR CHALLENGE on the site.

I know that you are seeing Cheery Lynn Designs doilies a lot lately and I’m sure you all have thought about using our doilies for misting sprays and stuff, right?

Ok, good, glad we are all on the same page there.

This card I have used the ORIENTAL BUTTERFLY DOILY as a mask for some Tattered Angles misting spray.

What I did for this card was to make my butterfly base with the ORIENTAL BUTTERFLY DOILY, using it as a mask for the spray.

Then I coated the butterflies heavily with the mist for this patina look.

For my card base, I used the same mist with the ITALIAN FLOURISH DOILY.

In this picture you can see where the Doilies have left a nice negative space design.

I embellished this with some of the DIMENSIONAL BUTTERFLIES, in the same color.

What a post, right?  Are you up for one more card??  Today on TIFFANY DOODLES the Bird Digis are up for sale.
Here is a peak at all of them.

Aren’t they all just so cute?  I opted to make a card with the Tufted Titmouse
This is my last project with TIFFANY DOODLES.
I have had a ton of fun with the TEAM.  I need to scale back on my TEAMS, to devote more time to ones that require more of my time.

I will miss all the DOODLE GIRLS!!!

Goodness, I just love this card.  I mean this Digi stamp!

Thanks for hanging in there with me today!  I hope you have enjoyed all my fun things today.
For now, this is Jeannie from the Polka Cabana saying Thank Goodness It’s Friday!

It’s all about the Veggies!

25 Jan

Ok, you crafty types out there.  What do I have to do to convert you all to loving my friends as much I do?  Which friends you ask?  You know, Bob, Larry, Jimmy, Jerry?  The VEGGIE TALES?  Well, I have such exciting things to share about my little veggie friends.   Cheery Lynne Designs have given the Veggies, their own place to shine.  You will be able to check in with them, and me, weekly to see what mischief we have gotten into.  Please go and visit THE PRODUCE AISLE over on Cheery Lynn Designs.

I will still be with the Cheery Lynn Designs Blog and will continue to have new things, there, to entice with all of the Cheery Lynn Designs dies.  THE PRODUCE AISLE will be for the VEGGIES only and anyone they care to include:)

This week, I have a lot to share with you, so grab a V-8 and keep scrolling.  The owners of Cheery Lynn Designs wanted to have some of the Veggie Tale characters to ship to the BIG IDEA studiosBIG IDEAs, do you know who they are?  They are the creators, the geniuses behind VEGGIE TALES.

Ok,  back to my story, it kind of goes like this:

Cheery Lynn Boss A to Boss B = Let’s send some of the Veggie Tale Characters to BIG IDEAs and they can assemble them to see what they look like

Cheery Lynn Boss B = Oh?

Cheery Lynn Boss A to Boss B = Maybe you could assemble them and mail them off to BIG IDEAs?

Cheery Lynn Boss B = ***Snickers***

Cheery Lynn Boss B to Boss A = How about I ask Jeannie, if she could make some cards or something to send their way?

There you have it, the reason behind today’s and some upcoming creations I have done.  The second I was asked to do something for BIG IDEAs, I knew I wanted to do a family portrait.  I had quite the problem, getting all these guys to cooperate for the picture, but finally we got some good shots!  (Kidding, this is a paper pieced Family Picture)

On this picture, that measures 11 inches wide and 8 1/2 inches tall, I used ALL of the Veggie Tale Dies.  You can view the whole gang(dies) here.  I also used, Picket Fence, Mountains Border, Scallop Circle and some new plates that are called Stitching Plates.  I had so much fun making this.

I can see this framed and hanging in a baby’s room, a daycare, a church nursery a newlywed gift that says “{insert last name} EST {insert year}.”  I can see something like this used for many different occasions.  They are cute, colorful and HAPPY!!  Here are some more pictures.

Left side of portrait:

Right side of portrait:

A little closer up to see the detail.

I love using rhinestones on my projects and my favorite supplier is: Rhinestone Hue’s on Etsy.  She got my addicted to rhinestuds, which she mostly sells on EBAY.  On this portrait I have used BOTH the studs and the stones.

Her Etsy store: http://www.rhinestonehues.etsy.com
Her Ebay store: http://stores.ebay.com/Rhinestone-Hues

Before putting this portrait together, the Veggies had a photo shoot individually.

Not pictured are Archilbald Asparagus and Jr. Asparagus.  They must have been out helping LARRY BOY or something!

After I got them all individually pictured, I decided to do some magic with them.  By extracting them from their white background, I was able to turn them into .png files. Now I can use them digitally.  Here are my examples.  This first example  is my .ning page header.  Again, the Asparagus’s are missing..oops!  I used 2 digital kits by STUDIO FLERGS on this banner.

Last, is my new profile picture for some different sites I am on and THE PRODUCE AISLE.

So, there you have it!  My long-winded post.  After playing with these guys, digitally, it sure does get my brain thinking of the many possibilities with my paper creations.  You know that ALLADIN song “A WHOLE NEW WORLD”?  That is what I am thinking.

Thank you for stopping by today.  Please visit us in THE PRODUCE AISLE often, we will continue to make you smile!

Cheery Lynn Designs Tuesday

18 Jan

This is another installment of Valentines and Leaves.  I had shared with you that Cheery Lynn Designs just released their newest set of dies, DIMENSIONAL LEAVES in my Saturday post.

I keep thinking of things to do with these leaves to use them beyond being LEAVES.  I think it is very important to use items to their full capacity.  Hopefully my cards today will show you some examples of what I mean.

We will start with the Valentine’s card.  Who’d have thought to make a Valentine from leaves?…..umm…………..  ME!!

Here is a close up.  I used a metal Piercing plate to create texture on my papers.  In addition to creating texture, the Piercing plate created all these holes that allowed me do all the hand stitching on this card.  The holes made it easy to just feed the needle right where I wanted to.  No punctured fingers for me on this project since the holes make hand stitching so easy.

Next, I will show you how I used the leaves to create a background for this colorful RAINBOW card.

I created a lot of detail and dimension on this card with dies, paint, and paper layering.

Isn’t that little Philippe Pea from Veggie tales the cutest?

Well, head on over to Cheery Lynn Designs.  They have some fun contests going.  Chances to win free product from the Cheery Lynn Designs Store.  They are also showing some of their new releases as they gear up to go top CHA down in Los Angeles!

Mixing and matching all these dies is so much fun, you should really try it sometime!!

Products used on these cards: Jean Claude and Philippe Pea, Dimensional Small Leaves #1, Dimensional Large Leaves #2, Lady Bug Frame, Scalloped Rectangle, Scalloped Oval, Scalloped Square, Buttons1 and Optimistic 1/2″ Tall Upper/Lower Case.

If it’s Tuesday, it must be, FUN STUFF!

4 Jan

I have lots of things to share today, grab a seat and prepare to be wowed.  Tuesdays for me, mean I get to post my projects for Tuesday Trio and Cheery Lynn Designs.  For Tuesday Trio, we are on sketch # 48. Here is the sketch and the challenge was to make the project vintage.

Here is my card for sketch 48.  Vintage takes work for me.  I do not even know if one would consider this looking vintage.  Let me know what you think.

Again, we would love to have you do the challenges with us.  Our leader lost a loved one recently and I told her all my projects would be dedicated to her dad.  So that is what I am doing, dedicating this card to his memory.  That means that I will try to make projects that are special to me.  I might wait till the last-minute to complete as assignment for Tuesday Trio, but my hope for the blog is that I will not miss a challenge and that I do my very best on all the assignments.  It is the least I can do for Tuesday Trio.

Here is the link, if you feel so inspired to play along with our international challenge blog.

http://tuesdaytrio.blogspot.com/

No on to Cherry Lynn Designs.  I have tried really hard to make some things that will bring a smile to your face.

It is no secret, that I love VEGGIES TALES.  Such a good wholesome show for families.  One of the characters, Madame Blueberry sings a song about being BLUE.  She is so focused on material things that she doesn’t understand why getting things and acquiring material possessions is not bringing her happiness.  She sings her little song, “I’m so Blue, hoo, hoo…”  Poor Madame, she does learn a good lesson in the end of the story, but I am using the words from her song  for this card.

The dies for all the Veggie Tales are so detailed.  They really make fabulous images.  I also created my own dimensional flowers out of the BUTTONS 1 set.

Here is a view of the inside of my card.

Here is the pull out portion of the card.

The card reads on the Front:  I’m so blue, hoo, hoo

The inside reads: Without you, hoo, hoo

Here is a close up of the dimension I tried to create on this card.

I will let you in on a design secret here:  The Blueberry on the inside is only a color copy of my original.  I did not want the image to get ruined from being taken in and out of the pocket, so I opted for a high quality copy instead.  You would not have even known, right?

On to my 2nd project.

This is the same card design, flip-flopped and also smaller.

Once again I used my own made up dimensional flowers and I also used on of the tiny buttons to create my own cherry.  It is on the phrase banner.

To mount my dimensional flower and cupcake image on, I used one of the French Flair dies.  I then embossed the die cut paper with the Dotted Swiss Embossing Plate.  I then sanded my paper to create those polka dots.  I love the way this looks.

Here is the inside:

Here is the insert portion of the card:
